Soho Editors develop web-based media approval system

A new web-based approvals system, Impact, is being made available to broadcast and corporate facilities.
Impact has been developed by UK firm Blueprint Software in partnership with post-production talent company Soho Editors.
The software which is installed on a facility’s own servers, allows users to encode timecode and frame specific video clips for viewing on the Internet, where notes can be shared by registered viewers. Users can even comment by drawing on the image. The service doesn’t require the end user to rent or buy a specific player or charges per clip. “It’s designed for the maximum number of people to view material,” said Soho Editors Brian Cantwell. “We’re not looking to rival Beam TV which has concentrated on the ad market. We’re mainly looking at general work such as film trailers or edit approvals”. The Images are viewable via a standard Flash player, although download times will depend on the receiver’s Internet connection.
Blueprint claims that 60 seconds of uncompressed footage can be compressed to under 10Mb in three minutes uploaded within five minutes and downloaded again in less than three minutes.
