Soho Editors & Our First Show Stand At IBC
This year's IBC was going to be a new experience for Soho Editors due to one major factor; this is the first time after 20 years that we were exhibiting inside IBC.
We were all very excited at the prospect of being on the show floor with our own space. Now, I should say we were merely dipping our toe in the water with what IBC called an IBC Launch Pad Stand, which effectively is a meter squared box squirrelled away in Hall 9.
Not the largest stand in the world but we were determined to make the most of it, after all we were exhibiting at IBC!
Things got off to a good start but then we hit some complications. We had hired a few local students to help hand out flyers. Unfortunately, none showed up on day two due to being 'ill', leaving us with several 1,000 printed flyers and no one to hand them out, before finding out from IBC staff that we're not allowed to hand them out anyway unless within a few feet of our stand.
Overcoming this, Nick Wortman, our new business manager, took it upon himself to make sure we made a connection with as many people as possible. By being his usual ebullient self, he was hard to ignore, let alone pass by!
We were also delivering our second ever FCPXWorld event a short stroll away from the RAI, which meant visitors and clients coming to find our little stand to get directions and information. This, together with the usual craziness of IBC, meant our little designated space was busier than we had expected.
IBC saw the usual round of parties, impromptu meetings, lots of taxis, long days and just as long nights. There were winners and losers, but I believe that we came out a winner. We will be back in 2018.
