Soho-based VTR purchases Trilogy Broadcast system

VTR plc, based in Soho, have become the first company to purchase and install Trilogy Broadcast's new Mercury IP Communications system – enabling all of their central London facilities to be linked together.
The Mercury system is a step change in intercom technology and allows effortless interconnection of local and remote sites over dedicated or shared networks.
The VTR system will feature two 'Black Box 1' System Integration Units with one to be used at the company's headquarters as a bridge for the existing Commander system to connect to the IP network.
The second will be in VTR's digital film facility to allow the direct connection of a number of 16 key hardware panels without the need for a new matrix – the main advantage of the Mercury system.
In addition, a number of existing PC's will be Mercury enabled to provide 'virtual' panels in streaming and other areas.
Bob Parsons, VTR's Group Technical Director for the UK region, said: "The adoption of Mercury as an IP communications infrastructure gives us a flexible and expandable solution as our requirements develop and grow. We are very excited to be the first customer of the new Mercury system and look forward to seeing the advantages implemented throughout our various facilities."
VTR was the first customer to install Trilogy's Commander digital intercom in 1994 and have since purchased two smaller Orator systems for other locations. Mercury allows the inter-site traffic to be carried over the existing IP data connection – sharing with other data traffic.
Roger Stanwell, MD Trilogy Broadcast Ltd, said: "VTR have been our beta site over recent months, providing valuable experience and feedback of Mercury in a user environment. As one of the top facility houses in the UK, their influence and reaction to this product was vital and we are now confident of a positive response from other customers in the months ahead."
VTR are a Soho-based award-winning company that's been around since 1984. VTR have a digital post-production facility with an international reputation for innovation and high-quality work on big commercials and promos, which also specialise in other associated areas such as CGI, feature film effects and broadcast work.
