Ministers Meet To Discuss Welsh Broadcasting

The Minister for Culture and Sport, John Griffiths and Ed Vaizey, UK Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries, have met to discuss a number of issues including broadcasting in Wales.
Speaking from Parliament Square immediately after their meeting, John Griffiths said: "I had an opportunity to discuss with the UK Minister for Culture, Communication and Creative Industries a number of issues that are important to the future of broadcasting in Wales.
"This included the need for Welsh Government to be fully involved at an early stage in the BBC Charter renewal deliberations.
"I also underlined the need for the new Charter to fully reflect the interests of the people of Wales and the current and changing devolved settlement."
Moving on to S4C, the Minister for Culture and Sport said: "The long-term future of S4C is extremely important to Wales and I took the opportunity of raising this matter - and the need for the channel to receive sufficient funding from the UK Government - with the UK Minister for Culture, Communications and Creative Industries.
"Increasing the accountability of broadcasters to the National Assembly and to Welsh viewers and listeners was another area that we also discussed during what was a very constructive meeting.
"I also had an opportunity to discuss how the British Film Institute is engaging with the devolved administrations, in order to meet its UK-wide remit."
