BBC To Discuss The Future Of Production At The Mailbox
The BBC will meet BECTU representatives on Thursday 9 February to discuss the future of production at the Mailbox in Birmingham.
Scheduling constraints on the union side mean that the meeting will take place in London.
The planned discussions follow a 24-hour strike in Birmingham earlier this month in protest at the BBC's decision to move large parts of the centre's work to Bristol and Salford. BECTU insists that the decision is fundamentally flawed from a production point of view and will cost the BBC a substantial sum at a time when savings are being sought.
Helen Ryan, supervisory official, confirmed that notice of further strike action would be deferred pending the outcome of the meeting next month.
In a letter to BBC management on 26 January, BECTU called for the planned programme moves to be deferred by at least a year, to August 2013, to allow for effective consultations on all aspects of the proposals.
The BECTU branch at the Mailbox will be nominating representatives to attend the meeting with the union's officials.
