Volicon VP To Discuss Loudness & CALM Act At SBE Chapter 22

Andrew Sachs, Volicon's vice president of product management, is set to present at the SBE Chapter 22 Broadcast & Technology Expo, which will be held at Turning Stone in Verona, N.Y. on Oct. 11.
Presenting "Loudness Monitoring and the CALM Act," Sachs will focus on the implications of the CALM (Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation) Act for broadcasters, as well as strategies for implementing economical and effective loudness monitoring and compliance.
In addition to reviewing the requirements of the CALM Act, Sachs will examine how the logging capabilities of the monitoring systems already employed by many broadcasters for standards-based verification of A/V performance metrics are now being leveraged to enable rapid review of aired content — whether broadcast a day, week, or month earlier — and fast identification of suspect content, as well as convenient export of the appropriate clip and loudness metadata as proof of compliance according to the ATSC A/85 Recommended Practice.
Sachs has more than 18 years of experience in the development and deployment of test and measurement solutions. Prior to joining Volicon, he served as service assurance solution owner at JDSU, where he was responsible for development and go-to-market strategies for the company’s IPTV/digital video monitoring solutions for IPTV and cable operators in APAC, EMEA, and the Americas. Other previous positions include director of workflow solutions and marketing for Acterna/JDSU, where he led the commercial launch of a hybrid portable OSS solution for field operations, and director of engineering in the network services division of Telecommunication Techniques Corporation (TTC). Sachs holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology and an MBA from the University of Maryland at College Park.
