Dylan Thomas documentary 'the most shown programme in history'

A film about Dylan Thomas has emerged as potentially the 'TV Programme shown more times than any other in history'.
The programme, 'The Dylan Thomas Trail', was made for the ITV Network in 1983 by HTV producer/director Alan Torjussen, one of a series of documentaries commissioned by ITV and transmitted several times on ITV and on HTV.
The Dylan Thomas Trail was seen several people from The Boathouse, Dylan’s old home in Laugharne in West Wales, which was being set up as a museum. They liked the programme so much that they asked if they could use it as the main audio-visual display which they were establishing at The Boathouse.
Subsequently, The Dylan Thomas Trail has been played at The Boathouse at least 10 times a day every day of the week for the last 20 years. No one has been counting, but it is estimated to have been shown at least 70,000 times.
The programme traced the locations around west Wales which influenced Dylan’s writing. It is introduced by actor Philip Madoc and featured interviews with Dylan’s friends, broadcaster Wynford Vaughan Thomas and composer Daniel Jones.
The producer/director Alan Torjussen left HTV in 1992 and now runs the Cardiff television and corporate video production company Genesis.
