DTS demonstrate 96/24 surround sound for DVB at AES

At the recent 114th AES Convention in Amsterdam DTS demonstrated the reality of 96/24 multi-channel broadcast sound, with live transmission by Swedish Radio of their DTS Digital Surround 5.1 DVB signal, received from an on-site satellite dish.
To coincide with the AES, the 1.5 Mbps signal was enhanced to provide DTS 96/24 Digital Surround with the ability to deliver higher signal quality than that available from DVD-Video.
On the opening day of the convention, the company hosted a presentation on its stand for press and industry, addressing the latest developments in high quality multi-channel audio for digital broadcast. The presentation was introduced by leading sound recording engineer, producer and AES keynote speaker Stuart Bruce, who addressed the advantages of multi-channel production for music. Ted Laverty, Director of Business Development DTS Europe, outlined the opportunities for higher quality and added value services that DTS Digital Surround offers the broadcast market. Representing Swedish Radio, Senior Sound Engineer/ Producer Bosse Ternstrom and Senior Research and Production Engineer Lars Mossberg, discussed the process of implementing a DTS Digital Surround broadcast signal, highlighting the ease with which it can be incorporated within the existing production chain.
DTS was supported in its presentation by its industry partners Leitch Technology Corporation, Nordic satellite AB and Tandberg Television, who announced the integration of DTS Digital Surround into its industry leading MPEG-2 encoding solutions for DVB.
