Creative England Provides Crew And Locations For ITV Show

Creative England’s one-stop-shop service for television and film production companies was showcased over the weekend with the showing of The Making of a Lady on ITV1.
The one-off drama is an adaptation of a 'forgotten' classic novel by celebrated playwright and author Frances Hodgson Burnett (The Secret Garden, A Little Princess, Little Lord Fauntleroy). It tells the story of the well born but penniless Emily who grew up hoping she would marry for love, but comes to realise that her priority must be survival.
Creative England assisted the Runaway Fridge production with finding crew and locations for the 25 day shoot, which filmed across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Liverpool and West Yorkshire in August and September.
Julian Meers, Line Producer, The Making of a Lady, said: "Creative England’s involvement with the crewing process when we were setting up the show was instrumental in getting such an excellent crew together for the shooting of The Making of a Lady.
"This was a complicated crew brief as the drama was a one off period piece for ITV1 with limited funds for such an ambitious script.
"As I wanted to crew entirely from the north of England and didn’t know 'the patch', Creative England’s expertise and immediate understanding of my needs introduced me to at least half a dozen crew members who were simply the best in their fields, made the show happen and always had a good sense of humour at the trickiest of times."
Creative England is committed to providing industry-focused support to encourage regional investment by the film and television industry, which can spend on average up to £32,000 per day filming on location.
The organisation provides assistance in finding suitable locations and crew via its dedicated team and its national databases, which launched in September. It also offers a local authority liaison service through its Film Friendly Partnership programme, smoothing the path for film production companies.
For crew members and facilities companies, Creative England offers a range of services to assist with training and development and the chance to find work. Regular networking evenings are held up and down the country, the next of which is to be held at Pinewood Studios on January 21st.
