APRS Sound Fellowship Awards Sponsors Announced
RØDE, Genelec and API - in conjunction with their UK distributor Source Distribution acted as this year’s platinum sponsors of the annual APRS Sound Fellowship Awards Lunch at the Kensington Roof Gardens in London – once again hosted by Sir George and Lady Judy Martin.
Now in its sixth year, the annual Sound Fellowship Awards Lunch recognises six individuals who have made a significant contribution to the art, science or business of sound recording. This year saw the awards presented to rock legends Pete Townshend and David Gilmour, Grammy award winning engineer and producer Bruce Swedien, acoustic engineer and studio designer Eddie Veale, Air Edel film music supremo Maggie Rodford and prolific audio journalist John Borwick.
With the room filled to capacity with some of the UK’s leading recording industry figures, Source were particularly pleased to be joined at their table by Jarmo Masko of Genelec and engineer/producers John Leckie, Guy Massey, Andrew Hunt and Tom Morris, along with Keith Malin of pro audio retailer KMR.
David Hamilton-Smith and Peter Filleul acted as joint MCs for the lunch, and the annual Harewood Toast was delivered by Alison Wenham, Chief Executive of AIM (Association of Independent Music). This toast provides an opportunity for a prominent member of the music, film and TV businesses to speak about the relationship they have with the studios and service providers that make their products, and Wenham gave an engaging insight into the challenges and opportunities involved in operating a small independent record label in the current climate of large scale record company mergers and acquisitions.
Finally, US record producer and writer Joe Boyd – an award winner at last year’s Sound Fellowship Lunch - gave the President’s toast in honour of Sir George Martin.
Commenting on the lunch, Source Managing Director Ian Jones said: "Having worked with RØDE and Genelec last year in sponsoring the Sound Fellowship Awards Lunch, we were extremely pleased that our friends at API decided to join the party and become a third platinum sponsor: it seemed fitting that a classic analogue audio brand like API should become involved with this prestigious event.
"Once again the Sound Fellowship Awards gave us the opportunity to share a room with the leading lights of the UK recording industry and celebrate all that’s great about our profession, and we look forward to continuing our close association with the APRS in years to come."
