Edifis Brick chosen for Mediaschool Finland
Mediaschool Finland have chosen an Edifis Brick digital disk recording system for their Media Workshop in central Finland.
The order formed part of a new studio system installed by Helsinki-based systems integrator Oy Hedcom Ab with a total contract value of €700,000.
Equipped to store an hour of uncompressed 4:2:2 video and stereo AES digital audio, the Brick is being used as a zero-delay recording and playback system interfaced to a Thomson DD-35 2S vision mixer.
An Edifis control panel with T-bar and jog wheel is located in the studio control room, remotely controlling the rack-mounted Brick.
Hannu Leinonen, technical manager at the Mediaschool said: "The studio is equipped to the latest broadcast standards, including virtual set facilities. We chose the Edifis Brick for its high uncompressed storage capacity, its varispeed flexibility and its widespread use in the broadcast, film and post-production industry to which many of our students will progress. Disk-based storage is operationally much more efficient than waiting for video tapes to shuttle backwards and forwards, hence their increasing popularity in programme origination, post-production, and playout."
Brick is a full-featured random-access recording and image manipulation system enabling clips of any length to be played in any order and at any speed from 2x reverse to 2x forward in 0.1% increments. Playlist editing tools allow the run order to be modified, clips to be trimmed or edited, and total run-times to be visualised.
Standard features include an internal mixer and compositor, video and AES digital audio signal storage and an HTML-based control interface.
Operation is similar to that of a VTR, either recording or playing, but with much faster access speed and practically zero maintenance costs.
