Chelsea star set to appear in Pangaea TV commercial
Exeter television production company Pangaea TV, based at Greenbank Studios, have teamed up with local children’s product pioneers, Olop Leisure to produce a television commercial.
Pangaea have produced successful commercials for Olop in the past, including one for the ‘Gladiator’ half-BMX, half-skateboard. Their latest venture, trading game ‘Starbles’, is predicted to take the world by storm and is being nominated for the ‘toy of the year’ awards.
The 30-second commercial set to feature Chelsea FC striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, is due to be aired on national television soon after the World Cup, and was originally designed with David Beckham in mind; but ran into difficulties over his newly contracted image rights.
The team at Pangaea have designed the commercial based on an original idea by Olop managing director Mark Bradshaw.
Mr Bradshaw said: “Pangaea are an easy team to work with, brimming with confidence, enthusiasm and imagination. We discussed ideas and they immediately saw the potential there. Within a week I had a fantastic storyboard on my desk, I can’t wait to see the end result.”
Recruiting local artist Etienne le Comte to convey Lear’s preliminary sketches to storyboard was the first step.
“Our team and freelance base has grown steadily over the last two years,” said Director Karl Lear. “There is so much untapped talent in the southwest, evidenced by the impending arrival of the Full Picture Company in the City.
"Exeter will soon have a buzzing film and television community that is the envy of Europe, we can’t wait.”
The commercial will be filmed locally; Galmpton Primary School near Paignton has been earmarked for the shoot, enhancing the local theme.
The commercial is now in the final stages of pre-production, and will be aired after the World Cup on television networks up and down the country.
