Two applications made for local television licence in Derry

The ITC have received two applications for the licence to provide a local television service for Derry.
The incumbent, Channel 9, run by North West Television Services Limited, have applied, but are facing competition from NTV Limited of Balliniska Road in the city.
The Invitation to apply for the licence to provide a local television service for Derry was published on March 5 2003. Licences for local television services (restricted service licences) are usually awarded for a term of four years, and currently for this particular licence the frequency has been cleared only until the end of October 2005. The licence is subject to the continued availability of the frequency channel, and consequently may be revoked if the identified frequency channel is required for any higher priority use.
The ITC hopes to announce its decision on the award of the licence in July.
