Aspera's Mobile Delivers Instant News Gathering Capabilities
Aspera, creators of next-generation software technologies that move the world’s digital assets at maximum speed, have announced that MTV Finland has upgraded their existing Aspera data transfer deployment to enable instant news gathering with Aspera's Mobile Client Application.
"This is a hugely important business development for us," explained Jukka Vehkaoja at MTV Finland. "The fact that reporters couldn’t upload content from certain mobile phones was a significant hole in the system, especially with the increasing importance of citizen journalism. Using Aspera’s software to enable this was an absolute no brainer for us. Aspera's transfer software, which we’ve used for the past three years, is extremely reliable and they were the perfect partner with which to take new provision to the next level."
With Aspera's faspex Android and iOS apps, users can distribute, share and exchange - over a high-speed wireless network - video and imagery files of any size using the intuitive faspex e-mail style workflow. This Aspera mobile solution enables automated ingest from global content suppliers, ensuring the fastest possible news gathering from field reporters using mobile technology such as smart phones and tablets. The new solution also enables end-to-end control of uploads and file movement across the newsroom management workflow ensuring that MTV Finland can be ahead of breaking news.
MTV Finland has used Aspera technology for its news gathering and internal infrastructure since 2008 - initially deploying Aspera’s high performance Connect Server, integrated with its MAM system - and have since upgraded to include SDK integration and Aspera Console to allow central management, monitoring, deployment and control of Aspera transfers.
This latest deployment enables reporters and MTV fans to send HD video, high-resolution images and audio files to the news desk, driving the channel’s internet news. The purchase of Mobile Client Application enables MTV Finland to meet the growing demand for news material to be available instantly by providing high-speed predictability with ingest and uploads from iPhone, iPad and Andriod based devises.
