Edius Leads In HD and 3D Format
Grass Valley has announced a new Edius release (6.06) that supports even more formats natively, including 1080 50P.
In a parallel announcement, Grass Valley will be releasing a 3D preview edition of Edius.
The company has added new features for P2 and XDCAM workflows and support for Blackmagic Design's Intensity Pro capture card. Finally a preview version of Edius, available in December, will deliver an advanced toolset for stereoscopic 3D editing.
While HD and 3D formats proliferate, there is often a temptation to transcode material into a single intermediary format for post production. Indeed, some software systems force rendering to a proprietary codec on production crews, costing them valuable time even before a single frame has been edited.
Edius has always been different, with a powerful, open platform that is capable of handling different formats, codecs, frame rates, aspect ratios and resolutions on the same timeline.
This latest version strengthens its armoury with support for 1080 50p as well as popular workflows to help editors avoid spending time on the technicalities of proprietary ingest tools and time-consuming transcoding.
The new support for P2 camera/source deck users gives editors the ability within EDIUS to create waveform files in a project folder - not on the removable media - and delay creating waveform cache files until required. Version 6.06 also features improved compatibility with XDCAM MXF files stored on SxS solid-state memory cards. Also included is support for Sony's XDCAM STATION with the latest XDS firmware (1.14) upgrade.
In their second, parallel announcement, Grass Valley is releasing a 3D preview edition of Edius.
It facilitates stereoscopic ingest via STORMT 3G and STORM 3G Elite platforms through a single 3G SDI source or dual 3G SDI signals. Once content is on the timeline, editors have access to tools for easy clip pairing for synching left eye/right eye clips, 3D clip adjustment, including automatic convergence adjustment, 3D preview monitoring, realtime colour correction, keyer, transitions and 3D multi-camera editing.
Richard Payne, Technical Development Manager with distributor Holdan, said: "Grass Valley understands that editing is a creative process that often takes place under severe time pressure. Edius's legendary format support keeps growing and keeps its editors ahead of the game. Working natively with various Blackmagic, Sony and Panasonic hardware is yet another example of this: Edius is continuing to evolve to suit its users' needs."
