Cagney & Lacey Celebrate 30 Years At BFI Southbank
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Cagney & Lacey, the multi-award winning 1980s television series, BFI Southbank are welcoming to their stage Sharon Gless (Cagney) and Tyne Daly (Lacey).
Barney Rosenzweig, the show's Executive Producer, will also take part in a panel discussion.
Illustrated with clips from the show BFI will ask how this iconic series changed the representation of women on television irrevocably and explore its far reaching influence on the detective genre and beyond.
Cagney & Lacey, starring Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly, was, throughout its seven seasons, often the highest-rated television drama on both sides of the Atlantic. It explored the professional and private lives of 'two women who happen to be cops, not two cops who happen to be women' with such emotional honesty that, some 30 years later, fans are still claiming it changed their lives.
It also changed television history when a letter-writing campaign succeeded in reversing the show's cancellation.
