National Geographic Makes 'Mega Moves' With Windfall

Windfall Films has produced Animal Mega Moves - a spin-off of Windfall's acclaimed engineering hit series Monster Moves, which aired on National Geographic Channel - for National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) and Nat Geo WILD.
The series will follow the high-risk exploits of teams of specialist animal movers as they attempt to relocate families of gigantic animals across the globe. The series will premiere globally on NCGI in January and in the US on Nat Geo WILD later in 2011.
This dramatic documentary series follows the journeys of elephants, rhinos, sharks and horses across the world by air, road and sea. The series applies a combination of character-driven reality and CGI animation to portray the engineering and anatomical challenges the teams face - whether reinforcing an aircraft to support the weight of a shark pool or airlifting elephants across the African plains by helicopter. The series uses immersive 3D animation to expose the animals' anatomy, exploring the biological and psychological effects of the relocation process.
Carlo Massarella, Series Producer, Windfall Films, said: "Each edition has a cast of larger than life characters that device ingenious ways to undertake each mission. The moves have genuine drama, a real sense of adventure and are visually spectacular, and which makes this show a perfect fit for National Geographic Channel."
Geoff Daniels, Senior Vice President for Nat Geo WILD, added: "This series documents the dramatic high stakes gambles required to transport supersized cargo including endangered rhinos or dozens of elephants. More than just compelling TV, this is important work as these animals face increasing pressure in their natural environment and these moves represent new hope for their species."
The location filming in Africa for two of the shows was co-produced with Johannesburg based production company Aquavision.
This commission follows the recent news that Windfall Films won the Specialist Factual award at the BAFTA Television Awards 2010 for Inside Nature's Giants, while The Operation: Surgery Live won the Best Multi-Platform Project award at the Broadcast Digital Awards.
Windfall Films has secured a pre-sale to Australian network SBS for the series.
