Harris Corporation Demonstrate Latest Routing Technology At IBC
International communications and information technology company Harris Corporation is demonstrating its latest routing technology innovations that help broadcasters more efficiently process audio and video signals and increase content monetization at IBC 2010.
At the Harris Stand (7.G20), customers can see a demonstration of the new HarrisR MagellanT family of router control panels, which delivers a fast, powerful and user-friendly way to control both Harris and third-party routing systems.
Available as a series of 10 programmable hardware panel types in both 1 and 2RU versions, the Magellan template-driven panels provide intuitive, Web-based configuration for quick and straightforward setup in both local and remote operations.
Designed with an understanding of the physical layout of a typical facility or outside broadcast truck, the compact (less than two inches deep) Magellan family of products enables users to optimise router navigation and control.
Harris Morris, President of Harris Broadcast Communications, said: "The Magellan family is the latest advance in the comprehensive Harris portfolio of versatile and powerful hardware and software-based router control options, delivering an unparalleled intelligent user interface for operators.
"These feature-rich customisable panels - ranging from simple, button-per-source, single-bus panels to multilevel, multibus, relegendable LCD button panels - enable customers to tailor both the complexity and cost of the panel to their specific operational requirements."
Harris also announced the European launch of the new eight-channel frame sync input card for its PlatinumT large-scale router - the first solution of its kind in the industry. This new input card is the latest addition to the Platinum router line, building upon the mux/demux embedded audio-processing feature, also an industry first.
With the frame sync input card, up to eight wild video signals can be synchronised to house reference - without the use of external frames or wiring. This greatly reduces customers' space requirements, as well as installation and hardware costs.
In addition to synchronisation, the card performs demultiplexing of up to 16 channels of embedded audio in each video stream, allowing the audio to be routed independently and discretely. ASI, SD, HD and 3 Gb/s signals are supported, as are coax and fiber connectivity. Backward-compatible with all Platinum frames, this flexible card significantly reduces complexity in the facility. Together, the mux/demux and frame sync functionality enable optimal synchronisation of audio and video, delivering highly streamlined customer workflows.
Morris said: "Harris continues to introduce innovative new routing solutions, from the game-changing embedded audio processing and integrated multiviewer capabilities in the Platinum router, to the number one small-scale routing system on the market, the PanaceaT router. Customers continue to rely on Harris for their most demanding routing applications - be it a network, local broadcaster, mobile production, cable, telco or government application. Our router momentum continues to grow, as evidenced by a recent milestone in which we delivered our 1000th Platinum large-scale router to PLAZAMEDIA. Germany's largest sports TV producer."
Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONET solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
