Editor appointed for new BBC One documentary strand

BBC One has commissioned an exciting new strand of high impact documentaries which will reflect life in the UK today in insightful and revealing ways.
Todd Austin has just been appointed editor of the new strand by Anne Morrison, Controller of the General Factual Group, after beating off stiff competition from a range of talented candidates.
The strand, which has yet to be named, will go on air in 2003/4 and will encompass a broad spectrum of styles and subject matters.
Todd's brief is to commission and executive produce high quality films from within the BBC and across the independent sector.
Anne Morrison said: "These films will feature contemporary British stories which take us into worlds outside our own experience and have a broad appeal for a BBC One audience.
"We'll be looking towards the brightest and best programme-makers from throughout the UK to work with us.
"Todd is an extremely talented and innovative programme-maker with an impressive track record. He has a clear vision of what he wants to do with the new strand which we all found very exciting."
Todd will take on the new role immediately and is already on the look out for fresh ideas and creative propositions.
He began his career in drama, working on films such as Truly, Madly, Deeply and Richard the Third.
He then moved into documentaries working in several indies as well as in-house at the BBC.
He was series director of Pleasure Beach and has made many single films including Supergrass for Inside Story and Positive Women for Modern Times.
Since becoming an executive producer in the department he has looked after films such as The Boy Can't Help It, Diet or Die, Hostage and The People's Queen - all for BBC One.
