School children win Scottish film prize

'Glasgow My City' is an animated film made by pupils from St Joan of Arc Secondary School working with Project Ability filmmaker Iain Piercy.
Produced over a number of workshop sessions, the pupils decided that the project should be based on the city of Glasgow theme. Each then scripted their own views, their likes and dislikes about the city, and together they developed the idea of a football game between Celtic and Rangers to structure the film. Because two of the pupils were Celtic fans and two were Rangers fans, they couldn¹t agree on who should win the Scottish cup, so they decided that both teams should win!
The young artists created their own drawings, ideas and storyboards, then worked in groups of three to animate their work, taking on the roles of camera operator, animator and director. They also voiced the commentary, created sound effects, and edited the film.
When the film was shown at Scottish Students on Screen in Dundee, alongside many other films by young people, audiences of hundreds of children voted it their absolute favourite. On Wednesday August 21, the prize of a digital camera will be presented to the children at school by Kodak¹s Martin Hammond and Scottish Screen¹s Education Officer Scott Donaldson.
