Mock The Week 'Reshuffled'
The top-rated satirical comedy show, Mock the Week, which was back on screens over the summer for its seventh series (Thursday nights on BBC2), is to lose a stalwart panellist.
Mock the Week will return for another two series - but without outspoken panellist Frankie Boyle.
That's despite Boyle being a regular on the show for all seven series since it first aired in 2005.
It is reported that he has left to pursue other TV interests.
The show, which innovatively combines elements of a panel show with stand-up comedy, off-the-cuff games and role-play, was just back on for a 12-week run.
When it returns, Boyle will be absent, even with a Christmas special due for broadcast in late December.
The comedian even missed his swansong on the show last week due to ill health, with David Mitchell stepping in at the last minute.
BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow, who reordered the show from Angst Productions, described it as a "major part" of the channel's schedule and said that Dara O'Briain will continue as host, with Andy Parsons, Hugh Dennis and Russell Howard understood to be remaining on the show.
The BBC has yet to confirm whether it will replace Boyle directly or opt for a rota of guest panellists.
Frankie Boyle recently piloted a self-titled sketch and stand-up show for Channel 4, to be produced by RDF Scotland subsidiary the Comedy Unit.
