Compix Launches CompixMOS 2.0

A leading developer of professional-quality character generators (CGs), Compix, has announced the launch of CompixMOS 2.0, an easy-to-use MOS interface for advanced newsroom integration of content from online play-to-air broadcast graphics systems. CompixMOS 2.0 will be demonstrated for the first time at IBC2009 in Amsterdam at Stand 8.A98.
Bringing an elegant and affordable implementation of the MOS protocol to a wide range of broadcast news and similar operations, CompixMOS 2.0 allows users to benefit from the functionality of the proven MOS standard by directly inserting cg events into newsroom scripts.
CompixMOS 2.0 enables the integration of discrete external devices like Compix CG systems that allow journalists, editors, producers and others to build high-quality news graphics ready for air, directly from the newsroom computer systems (NCRS) rundown script interface at their workstation.
Lan Merrill, Vice President of Engineering at Compix, said: "CompixMOS 2.0 is a really exciting breakthrough in extending MOS capability to a much wider range of newsrooms and other applications, using any of the major newsroom systems. We have gone out of our way to make this powerful and elegant interface available at a price that is attractive to the most cost-sensitive news operations, and we are working closely with industry leaders such as Ross Video, which uses the MOS protocol with its award-winning OverDrive automated production control system."
CompixMOS delivers a highly economical MOS solution for newsrooms by being available on a per-chassis license fee, allowing multiple user access without cost prohibitive per-seat license cost strategies. CompixMOS requires only a basic networked computer to run the software and handle network traffic, further reducing the cost of entry to full MOS capability.
Specifically designed to operate with world-leading newsroom computer systems including AP ENPS, Avid, iNEWS, Octopus and EZNews, CompixMOS 2.0 provides tools for browsing graphic templates and populating selected graphics with news information from any workstation on the NCRS network. A preview facility is also provided for checking the graphic before going to air.
Once populated with information, graphics are ready to take to air with the Compix AutoCast playback control interface, or can be completely automated using industry standard remote control methods using serial and TCP/IP connectivity, such as GPI and intelligent interface. As stories are moved, added, deleted or floated by the show producer within the NCRS, the Compix AutoCast output playlist is automatically adjusted to reflect the changes in real time.
