George Massenburg Collects APRS Sound Fellowship

After an enormously entertaining AES UK section lecture by US production guru, George Massenburg, he was presented with an APRS Sound Fellowship by Peter Filleul, APRS Executive Director.
The APRS inducts six Sound Fellowships each year to individuals who have made "a significant contribution to the art, science and industry of sound recording". Other recipients in 2008 included Ray Dolby, Mickey Most, Geoff Emerick, Rupert Neve and Sir George Martin.
Presenting the award, Peter Filleul commented: "George is a particularly well-qualified candidate for our Sound Fellowship as he is an individual who satisfies (and goes on satisfying) each of our criteria through his work as a brilliant creative engineer and producer, his innovative and benchmark-standard technical research and design in electronics and acoustics, as well as his nouse and endeavour in developing GML as one of the most respected hardware and plug-in manufacturers in the world."
The AES hold regular open lectures and technical visits for its members. On this occassion, Massenburg's inspiring lecture was illustrated with audio examples of old and contemporary recordings, all of which - despite their format - exhibited special qualities of performance and musical interaction and reminded attendees that, irrespective of formats and equipment, good recordings require an organic approach and nurtured performances."
