MHz Storms In With DSNG Humvee For Telemedia

An international independent systems integrator, Megahertz (MHz), has announced that it has been awarded the system integration contract by Telemedia in South Africa to build a DSNG vehicle using a Humvee H3 model.
Once complete, the new red-coloured Humvee H3 is expected to be the flagship of Telemedia's DSNG and uplink fleet.
The Humvee H3 is being modified at MHz's in-house coach building facility in Ely (UK) according to Telemedia's precise specifications which requires the vehicle to cope with both the rigours of working in the subcontinent while at the same time providing an ergonomic operational environment.
Peter Bretherick, Managing Director, Telemedia, said: "We chose Megahertz to support the design and build of the links capabilities on our new Humvee H3 DSNG vehicle because they have a proven track record of building high quality DSNG trucks for other international broadcasters. The team at MHz have already shown their unique insight and understanding of the systems' requirements and clearly support our effort to build a unique vehicle to address the needs of the African market within a specified timescale."
Bretherick continued: "Ultimately this Humvee will become the flagship DSNG vehicle for Telemedia's African news operations."
Designed for rapid deployment, the Humvee will feature a 1.5m compact integrated Advent NewSwift motorised roof-mounted Ku-band antenna system. This will incorporate a custom modified cowling and bracket arrangement to house the redundant High Powered Amplifiers (HPAs), waveguide switch and dummy load. The Humvee will also include Tandberg encoders/modulators with HD-SDI cards, which together with the other links equipment will allow for HD-capable operation throughout the links transmission chain.
Greg Hoskin, Managing Director of Megahertz, said: "Telemedia Humvee H3 DSNG brought with it some unique challenges both in terms of design and the systems integration solutions we are able to offer.
"After establishing precisely what Telemedia needed to achieve with the vehicle operationally, MHz was able to draw on its expertise to design an interior layout and the exterior links requirement that would not only cope with the rugged African terrain but that would also maximise on the operational comfort inside the vehicle."
