New BBC DSNG vehicle joins British hopefuls in Cyprus

Cambridge based integration specialist Megahertz Broadcast Systems has delivered the latest addition to the BBC News fleet of DSNG vehicles, DSNG vehicle 10.
The vehicle is based on a 7.5 ton LWB Mercedes Vario fitted with a 12kVA on-board generator and 12m pneumatic mast. The satellite system includes a 1.5m Swedish antenna fed with a fully redundant uplink chain.
Production facilities are provided for up to 11 cameras; three via Bi-ax CCU's, three via Fibre, one via a Radio Link and the remainder via external inputs. The heart of the system is a Quartz routing matrix of 32 x 32 SDV and 64 x 32 audio.
There are also 8-channel vision and 11-channel audio mixers, along with a Trilogy 36 port talkback matrix.
The build of the DSNGV10 was a particularly interesting project for Megahertz as Steve Burgess, Technical Director explained: “The DSNGV10 contains a lot more production equipment than normally associated with a vehicle primarily for news. Therefore to ensure operational space was optimized we used 16 flat screen LCD monitors housed in shallow equipment racks, which allows for full production facilities.”
The vehicle's first major assignment will be in August, in Cyprus, where it will report from the Great Britain Olympic team's training headquarters.
