OmniTek Reveals CIE Chart Analysis At NAB
Innovative test and measurement manufacturer OmniTek showed its new CIE Colour Chart analysis functionality for the OTM 1000 3Gb/s waveform monitor, signal analyser and generator for the first time at this year's NAB.
Mike Hodson, President of OmniTek, explained: "The CIE colour space is the most widely accepted, international standard way of defining colour. First established in 1931 it allows chromaticity to be defined with wavelengths in nanonmeters.
"However, until now it has not been possible to measure down to this level of colour definition accurately with a video analysis system. The CIE Colour Chart functionality within the OTM 1000 being revealed for the first time at NAB will be available to address this need and will be particularly relevant for post production houses working in a HD environment which need to analyse colour as accurately as possible."
The OTM 1000 itself provides reliable, multi-format and multi-channel signal generation plus comprehensive input data analysis capabilities. The system is compatible with all available single-link and dual-link SDI signals at bit-rates up to and including 3Gb/s. There is also the option to provide full SDI physical layer analysis, including the world's first production 3Gb/s SDI eye pattern display.
Digital Cinema video standards use XYZ colour space which has a wider gamut than conventional RGB colour space and covers all visible light. The CIE colour chart enables user to determine if a video signal is within this visible gamut, or the gamut for the RGB primaries used for the digital cinema display and compare this to the gamut of traditional film stock.
Hodson continued: "The CIE Colour Chart functionality underlines our continued commitment to bring some of the most creative and leading edge test and measurement technology to our clients.
"This major enhancement to the OTM 1000 is just one of the exciting innovations we are revealing in Las Vegas which will benefit of broadcasters, R&D departments and post production houses across the world."
