ATG Broadcast Completes Twin-Studio Refit At TV4 Sweden
ATG Broadcast has completed the latest in a series of projects for Sweden's largest independent television channel, TV4.
Awarded on the basis of competitive tender, the new order encompasses the replacement of TV4's existing Studio 1 and News Studio and their respective control rooms at the network's headquarters in Stockholm.
Jonas Collsiöö, TV4's Technical Director, commented: "A core requirement was the ability to assign the new production control rooms (KR1 and KR2) to either or both of the newly-equipped studios:Studio E which will be used for entertainment programmes plus an open-plan-style newsroom, Studio N. We needed to achieve a much higher level of operational flexibility than was possible with the earlier infrastructure. The new system is based on a Sony MVS-8000G multiformat vision mixer and Lawo MC2 audio console.
"The Sony mixer is operated for assignable control panels coupled to the mainframe. We already have an MVS-8000G working successfully in Studio 4 and our production staff like working with it. We chose the Lawo audio mixer for a similar reason; Lawo sound mixers are commonly used by Swedish broadcasters in OB environments and our audio production colleagues were keen to deploy the MC2 for studio use. It is single processing chassis which can be driven from assignable panels in KR1 or KR2."
Guy Elliott, ATG Broadcast Managing Director, added: "TV4 has proved a very loyal client over many years but every new contract is won in an open and competitive environment. The order was placed in May 2008. TV4 wanted to get Studio N and its control room into commission by September with Studio E going on air early January. Scott Adams (Senior Project Engineer) and Eric Olafsen (Broadcast Engineer) were assigned to the project, reporting to Projects Manager Dave Whitaker. Everything was completed on schedule, including on-site training."
Dave Whitaker said: "The new installation makes extensive use of optical fibre connections between the control rooms and each of the two studios. At the front end of the studio system are eight Sony cameras with Radamec remote pan/tilt, MA Lighting control and Autocue prompting.
"Signal distribution is centred on a a Pro-Bel Cygnus handling HD-SDI and SDI plus a Lawo MC2 66 which doubles as a audio mixer and router. Routing is controlled via Broadcast Solutions' Virtual Studio Manager operated from remote panels with programmable LCD pushbuttons that display their respective task.
"The newsroom is linked into Mosart Medialab automation. System infrastructure includes Axon glue, Hego and Omneon servers, 48-input Evertz multiviewers, JVC, Samsung and Sony picture monitors, Tektronix waveform monitors, Custom Consoles MediaWalls and desks and Trilogy Commander talkback.
