BBC Closes Hunt For Director Of Sport

Enforced cut backs across the board in credit-crunch Britain - and in the TV and media world in particular - hasn't slowed the hunt to find a new boss for BBC Sport.
The search got underway in January to fill the shoes of the current director - who is moving to a specialist 2012 Olympics position.
Already, first round interviews have been carried out, with those selected for more in-depth probing being called back during February for the second round
Industry insiders are tipping the current BBC Sport Head of Programmes and Planning Philip Bernie, the boss of general sports at the BBC, Barbara Slater and the current Head of Football Niall Sloane.
Whoever assumes the post will have to be prepared to move to Salford with BBC Sport which is due to relocate there by 2011.
They will also report to the corporation's first Director of BBC North, Peter Salmon, instead of the usual route, to BBC Director General Mark Thompson.
However, the BBC is known for appointing relative outsiders to this specialist position.
The outgoing Director of Sport is a prime example, as Roger Mosey was then Head of Television News, with no specialist sporting interests.
Mr Mosey is now leaving the sports job to take up the new role of BBC Director of London 2012, responsible for all of the corporation's sports and cultural coverage surrounding the Olympic Games.
