NEW SENIOR MANAGER APPOINTED AT BBC SPORT

PETER Salmon, Director of Sport at the BBC, has appointed Andrew Thompson as Head of Special Projects and Development to be responsible for a range of new initiatives in BBC Sport.
Thompson, currently the Editor of ‘Breakfast’ on BBC television, has increased the audience by 10 per cent since the re-styling under his supervision.
Salmon said: “This is an important new senior post in sport and Andrew is the right person to develop a number of initiatives including interactivity, new channel activities, technology innovations and progressing sports ideas for the main BBC channels. This is all about further emphasis on innovation and creativity in BBC Sport.”
Thompson has worked as a Senior Producer on shows as varied as the US Presidential elections, ‘Newsnight’ and ‘London Plus’.
Thompson will take up his new post on January 15, 2001.
