Rude Tube Hits E4
One of the UK's independent production companies October Films has received its first commission from E4 to produce Rude Tube, a 6 x 24 minute series which celebrates the greatest internet video clips 'of all time'.
The commission follows the success of Channel 4's Rude Tube which peaked with viewing figures of 3.1m and secured sales in six international territories including France, Italy and Brazil.
Each week, the E4 series, presented by comedian Matt Kirshen, counts down 20 of the most shocking and popular videos (listed in order of their popularity online) from a different category: Celebrity & Wannabe, Freaky Skills & Geeky Thrills, Naughty & Naked, Pranks & Stunts, Animals & Kids and Drink & Drugs.
Year to date, E4 is the largest channel for its target audience of 16-34s, with a 3.99% share, well ahead of its competitive set including BBC3, ITV2 and Dave.
So far in October, E4's has even had a larger share of this audience than Five, with a 4.61% share, versus Five's 4.42% share.
E4's share of 16-34s is even larger in peak, at 4.79% compared to Five's 4.71%.
The programme offers viewers a unique insight into the online 'heroes' who sing badly, dance terribly, and rant to webcams worldwide with exclusive interviews from the people who have made the outrageous and absurd clips and those who star in them.
Matt Robins, Head of Development at October Films, said: "Rude Tube's success stems from its celebration of the way people can post almost anything online and become famous overnight.
"But I think the reason it works so well, and what sets it apart from other clip shows, is that it goes the extra mile, finding those whose lives have been changed by the explosion of their particular clip online, and hearing what its like to become an internet celebrity."
Angela Jain, Head of at E4, added: "E4 is enjoying a bit of ratings moment, and we have lots of great commissions to look forward to between now and Christmas, including Rude Tube, which fits perfectly with E4's trademark tongue-in-cheek, naughtiness."
Rude Tube is an October Films production for E4 commissioned by Michelle Fobler. The series will be produced by Matt Robins and executive produced by Adam Bullmore for October Films. It will be distributed by C4i.
