Fox Italy Utilise APT WorldCast Meridian For Bidirectional IP Link

An IP link-up between Broadcaster Fox Italy in Rome and a Voice Over Talent in Berlin, Germany, was recently made possible by the APT WorldCast Meridian audio codec.
Fox, headquartered in Rome, Italy, was launching a new entertainment channel in Germany and needed to record a Voice Over artist based in Berlin to promote the new venture.
To avoid having to fly the VO artist to Rome Fox utilised the WorldCast Meridian IP audio codec to record the material in Berlin while monitoring and co-ordinating the session from Rome.
Alessandro Travaglini, Senior Sound Designer with Fox Italy, said: "We required a solution that would allow us a high-quality audio stream, real-time operation, bidirectional communications and DAW sychronisation over IP.
"We had originally considered the "traditional" ISDN solution but it would have required a dedicated dual phone line.
"Since we only needed the connection to work approximately 2 days a month this would have been difficult to justify which is why we began to search for an IP based solution. Originally we tested on audio plug-in but, due to FOX IP structure, it was not possible to overcome firewall blocks and, despite several attempts, the solution never came to life."
Travaglini continued: "I spoke with APT and they recommended the WorldCast Meridian which met all of our requirements. Installing the units was relatively simple and we had excellent support from APT when we had any questions during this process."
The link involves two ProTools stations running the same audio/video session which had been delivered in advance via FTP.
The DAW in Rome operates in Master mode and, using the Digidesign SYNC I/O Time Code Generator, controls the other one in Berlin.
The WorldCast Meridian is a multi-algorithm, fully duplex stereo audio codec offering both IP and Leased Line connectivity.
It provides a reliable and proven platform for studio to transmitter links and inter-studio networking applications worldwide.
