BBC recognise Megahertz success with new contract

Megahertz Broadcast Systems have won a major contract from the BBC to install and integrate equipment in Unit 11, a massive outside broadcast vehicle that will be used to provide linking and studio facilities at a range of sporting events.
The contract, which was announced at this year's IBC in Amsterdam, follows the success of the BBC's Unit 10 Outside Broadcast vehicle that was also integrated by Megahertz and completed in just six weeks, in time for its Commonwealth Games debut. The new vehicle will follow a similar design and will be based around a large, double expanding trailer currently being adapted by coachbuilders Smiths, of Great Bentley.
Megahertz Broadcast Systems will handle the design and management integration of all systems, wiring and installation for Unit 11. The new unit will utilise equipment from an existing BBC OB truck.
Peter Byram, BBC Outside Broadcast's Technical Development Manager, says: "It will be very similar to Unit 10 and will incorporate a Calrec 40-channel S2 sound desk, a Thomson DD-35 vision mixer and a vision system with facilities for 16 cameras. There's also a Quartz 128x matrix plus an additional matrix. The VT facilities will be improved from the old vehicle to match Unit 10 to take seven 6-channel EVS LSMs and nine Digibetas."
Francis Jarvis, Commercial Director for Megahertz Broadcast Systems said: "It is very gratifying that the immense team effort afforded on unit 10 was clearly appreciated by BBC and in fact that they were so satisfied with our work they have awarded us the integration of Unit 11."
