Sony Sells 1000th HDC-1500 Camera

As part of 6,500 live production camera sales worldwide, Sony have announced how a recent sale to French TV broadcasters, Groupe AMP, marks the 1000th HDC-1500 camera unit sold in Europe since the range launched eighteen months ago.
Olivier Bovis, General Manager for Content Creation at Sony Professional Solutions Europe, said: "From shooting large-scale sporting events to Saturday night entertainment, the HDC-1500 range has been designed to suit the specific needs of broadcasters who demand a very high standard of performance.
"With this landmark of 1000 units in the region, Sony's range of reliable and powerful cameras now represents approximately 60% of the growing market for High Definition products in live production environments."
Sony's HDC-1500 camera system has become the mainstream acquisition tool for broadcasters in Europe. Offering a broad choice of interlace and progressive formats, ranging from 1080/50i and 1080/60i to 1080/24P and able to capture images in 1080/60P, 720/50P and 720/60P, it offers operational flexibility and allows broadcasters to future proof their programmes.
Sony is committed to working closely with its customers in the challenging and high-pressure environment of live production to ensure a reliable and efficient transition to HD. In the UK, BBC Studios, part of BBC Resources Ltd, recently bought eight new HDC-1500 HD cameras as part of its HD upgrade of Studio 4 to support its entertainment production customers. This is the third studio that BBC Studios has upgraded using Sony's HDC-1500 series, in response to the growing demand for HD content, both for transmission and archive purpose.
Studio 4 comprises 8,000 square feet and is designed to produce any of the current HD and SD formats, simultaneously.
From studios such as Portugal's GMTS/SIC, which has installed 19 HDC cameras for shooting sporting events to Outside Broadcast companies and TV rental operations, many customers are choosing Sony's HDC-camera range to meet the needs of their international client base.
Cinevideogroup (CVG), a large general and technical services company in the Netherlands, works with TV production companies and broadcasting organisations across Europe to produce large-scale programmes such as the Champions League, the World Cup Soccer Under-21s, election programmes and concerts.
In January, CVG partnered with Sony to fit its midsize broadcast truck (the OBV 15), with 18 Sony HDC-1500 cameras.
Bolke Burnaby Lautier, Operations Manager, Cinevideogroup, said: "Sony was our choice for the OBV 15. Its expertise in HD technology easily surpassed the competition, and its reputation for dependable products was very important, given our requirement for equipment that can function in demanding operating environments."
