SAMMA Systems Team With IBM To Create Automated System For Broadcasters

SAMMA Systems, the global leader in media migration, has announced that they will team with IBM to create a cost-effective, streamlined solution for content owners for the automated ingest and encoding of volumes of videotape content.
The system will be demonstrated for the first time in IBM's stand (SU3614) at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas from April 14-17.
The process pairs SAMMA Systems' Robot, a multi-channel, fully automated videotape-to-digital file migration system, with IBM's powerful multi-platform system capable of swiftly ingesting large quantities of content and rapidly encoding the material for instant availability. The system provides streamlined monitoring of content quality with easy-to-read graphical analytics.
Peter Guglielmino, CTO, IBM Digital Media, said: "SAMMA Systems Robot is a great complement to IBM's format management demonstration at NAB and represents a clear example of our collaboration with SAMMA to create innovative migration solutions for media and entertainment clients.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with a system that not only is able to keep pace with our high-level encoding process, but also yields detailed video and audio analytics."
The Robot detects and automatically corrects many common tape and video problems. The system producers SQL integration for library and asset management systems. For batch management, it produces XML reports on key metrics for every video frame. One operator can produce up to 28 simultaneous digital file recordings from seven videotape recorders.
SAMMA will also furnish the 'sports' area of the IBM stand at NAB with a single-channel, semi-automated system capable of easily digitizing and accessing assets.
Mark Gray, President of SAMMA Systems, said: "SAMMA Solo is a compact, flexible and scalable appliance, perfect for sports workflow. Solo can ingest material and create multiple digital files in real time with a single pass of the tape."
The SAMMA Solo can be configured as a single-channel system or easily scaled up to accommodate many channels while still being driven by one operator.
SAMMA Systems Inc. develops and manufactures systems designed to cost effectively digitize medium to large size videotape archives. Further information is available at: www.sammasystems.com.
