Suite Chooses Eyeheight Legaliser And Cage Generator

Suite has chosen an Eyeheight legalEyesMDi multi-definition legaliser with an integral safe-area (cage) generator for installation at premises in Newman Street in west London.
The dual-role unit enables both functions to be performed with a 1U chassis mounted beneath an existing Eyeheight SD legaliser/SAG.
Suite's Chief Engineer Jim Merrett said: "We are an HD/SD editing house operating predominantly with Avid equipment. 90 per cent of our work is SD, mostly for the major UK broadcasters, with the balance of our activity being 1080i HD. "We chose Eyeheight's legalEyesMDi for Edit Suite 9, our first HD suite.
"The legaliser checks and, if necessary, corrects the output from an Avid Symphony Nitris HD prior to copying to tape. The Eyeheight safe area generator is connected into the feed to the picture monitor and is used to ensure title graphics are fully legal when 16:9 originals are viewed on 4:3 displays or vice versa. It is very convenient to have both functions in a single compact unit."
Eyeheight's legalEyesMDi accepts 1080i and 720p HD as well as 625i PAL and 525i NTSC SD. It automatically senses and adapts to the incoming signal format. Suitable for free-standing or rack-mounted use, legalEyes has a compact half-U footprint and 1 U height. It enables television producers and video editors to keep the level of their content within the strict tolerances required for HD and SD transmission and DVD mastering.
Levels can be monitored continuously and manually or automatically corrected. legalEyesMDi can be controlled direct from its front panel or remotely. User-adjustable presets include hard and soft clipping levels, luma gain, chroma gain and black level. Settings can be stored in eight power-protected user memories. High speed Ethernet connectivity is incorporated, allowing easy interfacing to third-party control systems.
Based in a traditional Edwardian town house, Suite offers a pleasant and fun environment in which to post-produce projects. Suite has a total of 16 online and offline built around a 16 terabyte Avid ISIS shared storage network for collaborative working on large projects. An important design consideration when engineering the suites was to achieve the maximum possible design and layout uniformity, allowing editors to move quickly from one suite to another with the minimum of fuss. Each suite features additional auxiliary equipment to cater for all editing requirements.
