Mill TV choose Softimage for 'Pyramid'
Mill TV have completed work on 'Pyramid', a large scale project for the BBC.
‘Pyramid’ is described as one of the most ambitious and visually stunning history projects ever made by the BBC, and tells the story of the Great Pyramid through the eyes of the men who built it.
The animation team at Mill TV used both SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.2.0 software and a beta version of SOFTIMAGE|XSI v.3.0 to create a historically accurate depiction of this monumental architectural endeavour, replete with massive crowd scenes.
The SOFTIMAGE|XSI system was chosen for its "major productivity benefits, ease-of-use, impressive array of features, open architecture and seamlessly integrated mental ray technology."
Dave Throssell, Head of Mill TV, explained why he used the SOFTIMAGE|XSI software: “I would highly recommended SOFTIMAGE|XSI. On one hand, people who have never used the system before can learn the software easily, and produce finished shots within two weeks. On the other hand, experienced users can customize core features through scripting and build an extended toolset specific to a job, which adds significantly to the existing great feature list that is available.”
Combining live action with computer-generated pyramids and backgrounds, Pyramid is to be broadcast at a peak-viewing slot in the UK on Monday, October 28 with worldwide transmission to follow.
