Fragments Upgrades To Autodesk
Oslo post house Fragments has upgraded its post-production systems to the Autodesk Smoke 2008 editing and finishing system, and the Autodesk Flint 2008 visual effects system, to benefit from the higher resolutions and speed of the latest versions.
The order is the first won by Autodesk’s new reseller in Norway, Benum, and follows the company’s appointment in October this year. The new systems will be installed this month.
Fragments opened its doors in 2004 and specialises in film and television post-production. The majority of its work is commercials projects for brands such as Toyota Aygo, Mytime and Best Buy. The company has been a long-time user of Autodesk’s Smoke and Flint systems.
“I’ve used Smoke since its early days. It really works: it’s fast and I wouldn’t consider using any other system,” said Jon Skjerven, Managing Director and owner of Fragments. “We decided to upgrade our systems because we want to work on the best equipment available. If you want to be at the top, you have to use equipment that’s at the top too. When you have short deadlines you need to have equipment you can trust. So the decision to invest in Autodesk systems was simple. We’re also very happy with the support from Autodesk.”
According to Skjerven, the main attractions of the new version 2008 software were the speed and the Burn node as well as the raft of new features on offer: “The benefits for me are that I get better resolution with 2K and faster processing. And of course I can offer my clients the best. It also opens up the possibility of working on long form 2K projects,” he added.
