Lion To Re-create Life On The Farm In Victorian Era

Lion Television has been commissioned by BBC Two to produce 'Victorian Farm', a 6x60 minute historical observational documentary series, following a team of experts who will become ‘Victorian Farmers’, spending a year working on a late 19th Century style farm using only materials and resources that were available in the Victorian era.
Historian Ruth Goodman and archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn, will be assisted by various specialists and expert craftsmen. The team will show what it was like to work a Victorian farm – what they ate, what they wore, how they organised their lives, managed their animals and farmed the land. Each month and season will bring pressing priorities, from tending to livestock and repairing buildings to preparing food and crafting furniture and tools.
David Upshal, Executive Producer for Lion Television said: “The Victorian period was a pivotal time in Britain’s agricultural history. In the same vein as Lion’s recent BBC commission 'History Detectives', Victorian Farm will seek to make new discoveries about a lost way of life. We will be exploring the extent to which the traditional crafts and skills of ordinary people in the Victorian era have been forgotten.”
Victorian Farm is a Lion Television production for BBC Two commissioned by Emma Willis and Richard Klein. The series will be directed and produced by Stuart Elliott and executive produced by David Upshal for Lion Television.
It will be distributed by All3Media International.
