Appointment of bfi Director announced
The bfi's Board of Governors have confirmed the appointment of Amanda Nevill to the post of Director.
Currently Head of the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television (NMPFT) in Bradford, Nevill will take up her new post at the bfi in June.
Nevill has worked for NMPFT for nine years. In that time she has led on the £16 million redevelopment of the Museum, and has successfully delivered a regional and national programme to promote film and television culture. Under her tenure, NMPFT has become the most visited museum outside London, attracting as many as one million visitors a year.
Previously, Nevill worked for the Royal Photographic Society which she joined in 1985, subsequently becoming Company Secretary and then Chief Executive Officer in 1990.
Chairman Anthony Minghella, who joined the bfi at the start of the year, welcomed her appointment. He said: "The Board of Governors are absolutely delighted that Amanda will be bringing her passion and vision to the bfi.
"Her distinguished achievements at the NMPFT speak volumes for her energy and commitment to making public institutions accessible, popular and relevant - skills which absolutely coincide with our determination to identify the bfi as a reservoir of moving image culture available to everybody in the United Kingdom."
Amanda Nevill is a longstanding exponent of film and television culture. She explained: "I have always been a huge fan of the bfi and admired it from afar.
"It is a delight and honour to be appointed as Director of such a prestigious institution. I will bring a deep-seated passion for the moving image in all its manifestations, coupled with a drive to pass on my enthusiasm to the widest audience possible. The bfi are poised to make some very major and important strides forward in the next few years, and I look forward to leading it to achieve the publicly acknowledged success it deserves."
