BFI SET TO OPEN NEW FILM CENTRE

THE British Film Institute (bfi) are presently scheduled to open the new Film Centre on London’s South Bank as early as 2004.
The new centre will enable all bfi public services to be presented within one facility. The bfi Film Centre will integrate the bfi’s public services in a single highly accessible, state of the art facility. The centre will include a five-screen bfi National film theatre, an expanded bfi National library giving access to the world’s largest collection of printed material about film, an improved bfi Museum of the Moving Image plus special exhibitions area and educational study rooms.
Visitors will be able to watch any format of film and video (including large format at the nearby bfi London IMAX Cinema).
Jon Teckman, Director of the bfi, said: “In the 20th Century, the moving image captivated the public’s hearts and minds. From the earliest days, film and television have shaped and recorded our lives. Now, in the early 21st Century, as the technologies by which film is delivered and consumed develop so rapidly, the appetite for the moving image in allow its forms is more voracious than ever. The bfi is thrilled that at long last the UK public can look forward to one great film centre, dedicated to celebrating all aspects of this most exciting art form.” (CMcL)
