Student Film Festival 'Exposures' Dates Announced
The dates for the UK’s leading Student Film Festival 'exposures', now in its 14th year, have been announced.
Shining examples of the country’s freshest filmmaking talent will be brought together at Cornerhouse, Manchester between Mon 3 – Thu 6 December 2007.
Up and coming filmmakers have until 5pm on Tuesday 31 July to submit their masterpiece to exposures 2007 and under-19s are invited to enter underexposed, the arm of the festival dedicated to younger filmmakers.
A panel of expert judges and discerning audiences will choose their favourite entries from cutting edge drama, documentary, animation and experimental films and the winners will be announced at the Corona Extra Best of the Fest Awards Ceremony. By bringing exciting new work to the attention of film and TV industry professionals, exposures offers student filmmakers the opportunity to take one giant step towards a career behind the camera.
After helping to pick the winner of the 2006 awards, film critic, journalist and exposures judge Mark Kermode commented: "From animation, to drama, to documentary, there is real talent here and real evidence of great things to come."
Joining him on the panel was novelist and screenwriter Deborah Moggach who said: "It was a huge pleasure to watch the films and it was really moving to see such imagination, originality and talent on display. Our industry needs people like these."
The prestigious Grand Jury Award 2006 was handed to Bournemouth University student Louise Palmer for her film Zabbaleen; The Rubbish Collectors of Cairo, an insightful documentary revealing one person’s life working the rubbish pits of the Egyptian capital, gathering and sorting waste to make what little money he can. The public handed the Audience Award to Nicola Morris from Royal Holloway, University of London for her drama Out Of Milk, scoring success with her very first film.
To be eligible for the festival films must have been made whilst studying for a qualification at a recognised education institution anywhere in the UK.
Entrants to underexposed will be 19 and under and based in the North West.
Full entry conditions and guidelines can be found at: www.exposuresfilmfestival.co.uk
