Miranda Technologies Signs Agreement With NBC Universal

Miranda Technologies has announced that it has signed an agreement with NBC Universal to provide the primary signal and facility monitoring system for NBCU’s broadcast facilities, using the SNMP-based iControl system.
Through this agreement Miranda will provide NBCU with technology to support systems monitoring for many of its facilities across the country. The agreement includes monitoring of the tranmission facilities, the core routing systems, control rooms, editing suites, and new media operations. The iControl system will monitor third party and Miranda equipment.
"One advantage of this approach is that the tools and efficiencies that we are creating with iControl can be utilized across all divisions of NBC Universal," said Larry Thaler, Vice President of On-Air Production at NBC.
"IControl has the potential to make our operators and maintenance teams more efficient, allowing them to support a greater number of systems, and to support new business activities."
NBC’s iControl system will have three core functions: operations, monitoring, and maintenance. As an operations tool, iControl will be set up in NBC’s intake and dubing facilities with customised, highly visual displays.
Monitoring along the signal paths will be performed using Miranda’s Densite telemetry probes, which provide wide ranging signal alarms and the ability to stream video back to the iControl system from key monitoring points.
As a maintenance tool, iControl will allow teams to identify the status of every key device in the system, resulting in early diagnosis and replacement of problematic devices. iControl operates using Monitoring-by-Exception, which involves automated device checking and filtering of superfluous information, to enable operators to focus on the real maintenance issues demanding their attention.
