S&T Enhance Commitment To The Broadcast Industry

Strategy & Technology Limited (S&T), specialists in interactive TV playout systems and MHEG middleware, has announced the appointment of Bruce Renne as Vice President & General Manager for North America (based in their new Denver office) and Gulliver Smithers as Head of Projects and Operations (based in London).
Those two new appointments have been made to further support the company's commitment to its strong and expanding worldwide customer base and coincide with the relocation of S&T's head office to larger premises in central London.
S&T's new North America office, which opened early 2006 in Denver, is strategically located close to CableLabs where OCAP development and certification takes place. This infrastructure investment will support the US market and S&T's major customers including Scientific Atlanta and the major MSOs. As S&T's new VP and General Manager, Bruce Renne's primary role is to expand their interactive TV system sales throughout North America and provide superior technical support and back-up.
Bruce Renne joins S&T from Liberate Technologies where he was Vice President Product Management. Prior to this, he was at General Instrument running Product Management and Engineering and IBM in Boulder, CO working on designing custom microprocessor VLSI and ASIC in Tucson, Rochester, and Kingston, NY. With more than 20 years of program management experience in the broadcast industry, Renne has successfully defined and deployed middleware products, systems and applications designed to enable interactive TV for global markets. Renne has a BSEE in Computer and Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University where he was involved in tracking the Navy's Transit and the first GPS satellites for all their worldwide locations.
Gulliver Smithers will be responsible for aligning internal and external projects, as well as general operations at S&T's headquarters in London. Working for over 10 years in the broadcast market, Smithers first started at the BBC on project management and development. Taking this knowledge and experience, he set up his own business called Codecall which provided outsourced services build for digital radio, TV games and EPGs. He later joined Sky, where he oversaw the development and the roll out of interactive advertising products, working with S&T on the Sky deployment of SkyText on FreeView. In 2005, he was employed by ITV as Product Manager for the new channel launches of ITV4, Children's ITV and ITV Play. While at ITV, he managed the largest Apple-based tapeless post-production facility in Europe.
David Cutts, S&T Director said: "As part of our continued expansion, we are delighted to have two new, outstanding and well-recognised people joining our team. Bruce and Gulliver both have the expertise, knowledge and reputation that S&T require and with the opening of our new headquarters in London, we are looking forward to the continued take-up and advancement of our interactive TV playout systems and MHEG middleware technology."
