Kubrick To Be Celebrated At 19th Seagate Foyle Film Festival
A host of industry professionals are set to descend on Derry for the 19th Seagate Foyle Film Festival, November 10-19, 2006, including such film luminaries as Christiane Kubrick, Jan Harlan and Rod Stoneman, fusing this year's theme of Film Dynasties.
A series of one-off workshops, seminars and Q&A sessions will be presented throughout the course of the Festival by not only Christiane Kubrick, Jan Harlan and Rod Stoneman, but also Maud Hand, George Avgerakis, Allison Gardner, Graeme Stewart, NIMIC, Penny Nagle, Peter Tabern, Double Negative and Edwina Forkin.
These workshops are open to all to attend, for the mere fee of £5 you can register and book for the Market and Guest Events and learn about the film industry first-hand from the professionals.
The Q&A session with Christiane Kubrick and Jan Harlan is undoubtedly a highlight of this year's festival, an event any self-respecting Stanley Kubrick fan cannot afford to miss. Christiane Kubrick married Stanley in 1956 and remained married until the legendary film director's death in 1999. Christiane is a highly accomplished, avidly collected painter in her own right and her works feature in 'A Clockwork Orange' and 'Eyes Wide Shut'.
Jan Harlan, Christiane's brother, was Stanley Kubrick's executive producer for 30 years. This role that seen him work on all Kubrick's films from 'A Clockwork Orange' through to 'Eyes Wide Shut'. After Stanley's death Jan produced the Kubrick conceived 'Artificial Intelligence AI' with director Steven Spielberg before directing his own posthumous tribute, 'Stanley Kubrick: A Life In Pictures.'
The film will screen at The Strand Multiplex on Thursday November 16 at 7.30pm. This film celebrates the life and films of one of the premier filmmakers of the last fifty years, while attempting to dispel the rumors of his more eccentric working habits. Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures offers a powerful reminder of the originality of Kubrick's films, leaving one in awe of the breadth of his achievements. The screening will be introduced by Christiane and Jan Harlan and followed by a Q&A session. You just have to be there.
The theme of Film Dynasties will be further brought into focus by Rod Stoneman (Director of the Huston School of Film and Digital Media at the University of Ireland, Galway) as he explores the work of one of Hollywood's most successful film families - that of American film director and actor, John Huston.
John Huston received 15 Oscar nominations in the course of his career and earned the unique distinction of directing both his father Walter and his daughter Angelica in Oscar-winning performances, making the Huston's the first family to have three generation of Academy Award winners.
John Huston's film 'Beat The Devil' will screen at The Nerve Centre on Saturday 11 November at 6.30pm. Rod Stoneman will discuss why this film deserves prominence amongst the Director's collection. Rod Stoneman was was Chief Executive of Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board until September 2003 and previously a Deputy Commissioning Editor in the Independent Film and Video Department at Channel 4 Television.
