Disqo Completes First Major Job

Golden Square’s digital content arm, ‘Disqo’, has just completed its first major job, alongside leading interactive agency Syzygy and Production Company Moon, for the new Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe.
The pan-European campaign focuses on the fact that the MX-5 Roadster Coupe boasts the fastest reclining hard top in the world, at 12 seconds. Three virals by JWT and an offline poster campaign direct viewers to a microsite created by interactive agency Syzygy, which also oversaw film production in September 2006.
The microsite’s interface allows visitors to create a humorous twelve-second mini-movie, with 16 possible outcomes, from a selection of four genres and four character sets. Drawing from a wealth of classic Hollywood iconography, the consumer gets to pick and mix together some of the world’s most famous movie genres and Hollywood based characters. From casting an Alien in the Spaghetti Western, putting a Zombie in a 70’s Martial Arts Movie, to seeing a Great White Shark in a Silent Movie.
Filmed at Shepperton studios with a six-figure budget, the ‘twelve second thrillers’ are broadcast quality with costumes created by the Little Britain wardrobe crew.
The Golden Square team shot all the foreground elements of the films on blue screen and composited in after effects and flame. They sourced background footage from the Internet as well as library stock footage, creating Matrix style transitions and laser gun rays. They then composited the car in the foreground of each sequence.
Ewan MacLeod, Executive Producer and co-founder at Golden Square, said: “It was great to get to work with David from Moon and Syzygy on such a creative viral project for the Internet. It was our first official project under the Disqo name and a useful experience to get a better understanding of working in this exciting new medium."
Gareth Phillips, Managing Director at interactive agency Syzygy commented: “Brands will increasingly look for ways to capitalise on the interactivity afforded by digital channels and agencies need to be equipped. The successful realisation of our ‘twelve second thriller’ project for Mazda can to a large extent be attributed to our in house TV production team, one of the few in our industry.”
