MTV to focus on original programming
MTV are reportedly to make a UK version of the popular live performance show 'Total Request Live' as part of plans to double their investment in original programming.
The Total Request Live show is one of the flagship programmes on the US version of MTV.
MTV are planning new shows to win a greater share of 16 to 34-year-old viewers tuning in to the 10pm weeknights slot.
The BBC, Sky One and Channel 4 currently dominate this slot, but Michiel Bakker, the managing director of MTV UK and Ireland, believes that following the success of US-created MTV shows like 'The Osbournes' and 'Jackass', the music channel can become a major player in the market.
