Welsh summer school to develop students' media skills
Students from Gwent secondary schools have taken part in a summer school that is part of a pioneering First Campus project called ‘Media4Schools’.
The project uses digital media and programme-making to stimulate learning and develop media skills across schools in Wales.
Using the state-of the art facilities at the International Film School Wales (IFSW), they were challenged to make a short promotional video about the University and its facilities.
Laura Janes, one of the University’s First Campus co-ordinators commented: “They all have had a wonderful time and really got a lot out of it. Working in teams, they wrote a script and then went on location to film at various places around the campus.”
Documentary film-making has a long and distinguished history in Newport. IFSW, which is based at the Newport School of Art, Media and Design, is nationally recognised as an institution that actively promotes and develops the audiovisual culture of Wales through education, research and training.
IFSW graduates enjoy success in many fields of film and animation, and the University boasts a growing number of award-winning film-makers whose work is gaining a large audience worldwide.
Aspiring film-makers can find out more about the range of film courses on the University website at www.newport.ac.uk
