International Film School Wales appoint head

Humphry Trevelyan has been appointed as the first Head of the International Film School Wales (IFSW) at the University of Wales College, Newport (UWCN).
He will take up the post in June 2003.
A graduate of Trinity College Cambridge and the University of Essex, Trevelyan has extensive experience within the professional worlds of both academia and film and television. In joining IFSW, he leaves his current position as Head of the School of Media and Visual Arts at Southampton, where he has had responsibility for a range of highly successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Film Studies, Media with Cultural Studies, and Journalism and Animation. Trevelyan also has lead the development of courses in Digital Media, Interactive Media , Performance, and Media Writing. Prior to this, he headed MA programmes in Film and Television Production in the Northern Media School at Sheffield Hallam University.
His background also includes positions as Head of Cinematography at the University of Westminster and Senior Lecturer in Film Production at Goldsmith's College, University of London.
Over the years he has played a leading role in establishing industrial, professional and educational links, including leading the Industrial Liaison Panel with BBC South, Meridian Broadcasting and industry employers at Southampton Institute. He has also led a number of strategic initiatives, including chairing the 'South East Film Task Force' that set up Screen South, the new film agency in the South East in October 2002. His consultancy experience includes analysis of Regional Infrastructures for Film, Video and Broadcasting for the BFI, Arts Council and Eastern Arts Board and production of the Consultancy document 'Networks for Change' for Eastern Arts Board, which explored the development of short courses in film and video production.
A founder member of the Independent Filmmakers Association, he worked for six years for Granada Television and was Director of Lusia Films and the Berwick Street Film Collective, producing numerous independent films and documentaries. He is currently working on a multi-screen installation emanating from the documentary feature film, ''Iranian Journey', produced for ZDF/Arte and winner of Best Observational Documentary in the Kalamata International Documentary Festival, October 2000.
