dB Broadcast to send staff to university
Independent system integrator dB Broadcast, which set up its own self-funded in-house apprentice programme for wiring technicians in 1999, has taken another major step in its educational programme by sponsoring one of its young employees on a university course.
Colin Harley, currently a project assistant in dB's engineering department, will be taking a three-year BSc Electronic Engineering course at Southampton University, funded by dB Broadcast. The course has a strong broadcast bias.
Colin joined dB some three years ago as a trainee wireman and after a year progressed to the engineering department. It is expected that over his three-year course he will work for dB for some 12 weeks a year during his holidays.
David Bird, managing director and founder of dB Broadcast, said: "When I was a young apprentice at Pye TVT in Cambridge, I received the benefit of a subsidised university education. Now that I run my own successful company, I want to put something back into the system. I recognised Colin's ability early on and believe he will take full advantage of this opportunity."
Graduate Paul Hanson has joined dB Broadcast's engineering section as an IT specialist. Paul will work on engineering projects with a heavy IT content and look after dB's in-house IT requirements.
Nigel Brookes has joined dB's 18-strong in-house wiring department. He was previously a freelance contractor.
