DUBLIN FUTURETV IN VIDEO-ON-DEMAND DEAL

FUTURETV, the Dublin-based interactive TV company, is to expand its Irish operations following a deal to provide content for a UK video-on-demand (VoD) service.
Public operator Kingston Interactive Television will provide the service free of charge to 1,000 subscribers as part of a commercial ADSL trial. The source material will be edited and digitally encoded for VoD, at FutureTV’s new Dublin facility.
They are extending to incorporate a Broadband Media Centre, which can now provide all types of streaming media and associated metadata to telecoms and cable operators across Europe. The centre is already under contract to supply VoD and audio on demand to an Eircom ADSL pilot.
Chief Executive Officer for FutureTV Northern Europe, Peter O’Keefe said: “We would almost certainly, as the business develops in Ireland and outside of the country, be required to open other centres around Ireland that would feed into the Dublin centre.”
FutureTV is involved with a number of ASDL projects and, in October, expects to announce details of its plans for the provision of pay-as-you-go, interactive TV services in Ireland.
